Fighting With My Family Review

I have always been fascinated with the idea of the WWE. I love combat sports but I have never understood fans obsession with professional wrestling when they know it is predetermined, and more of a story than sport. However, WWE has some of the most passionate fans in the world.

Paige is a pioneer for women’s professional wrestling and really made it much more high profile in the public eye. She was not a model or cheerleader, she was a true wrestler who wanted to be the Divas champion from a young age. Directed by the great Stephen Merchant this movie tells the story of her life and her family’s passion for Wrestling. Her journey from her family’s own promotion the WAW to the becoming the youngest Divas champion in WWE history. What is remarkable about the movie is how much you come to care about the family and how they show how important it is to have a passion in something, no matter what it is.

It feels a lot like a normal sports biopic, but it is funny, heartwarming, uplifting, and downright an enjoyable experience. Oh and the Rock shows up in it to just do Rock things.

Stock Watch

Stock Up – Florence Pugh is someone I had not heard of but she was electric as Paige. You cannot really take your eyes off her the whole movie, and she hits all the beats. She does the comedy and drama well and really makes you believe that she is the superstar that Paige is in real life.

Stock Up – Jack Lowden played her brother Zack “Zodiac” and he is the emotional core of this movie. His arc is phenomenal and I think he is someone who could have a very bright future in cinema.

Stock Up – Stephen Merchant for a long time was known as Ricky Gervais partner, and for good reason they made greatness together.

This is his first movie he has directed by himself, and what a debut this is. You can tell he injects his humor into the overall story and it really shines through. This could be the start of a great directorial career. He was also really funny in the movie playing the dad of Zack’s Girlfriend.

Stock Neutral – Dwayne Johnson….I mean he is just the Rock what else can you say.

(no stock downs in this movie)

*A couple other tidbits

  • Nick Frost and Lena Headey are incredible as Paige’s parents and have the viewer cackling every time they say anything.
  • Vince Vaughn does the best he can playing Hutch Morgan, his transition to becoming a more refined actor has been really exciting to watch.
  • Everything in the movie that goes on with her in NXT is great.

This movie was so much more fun than I thought it would be and should reach a wider audience than just sports fans. This is a great family movie and might have your eyes watering by the time the credits are rolling.

Juice Rating: 87/100
