*This movie is crazy
This is a real text I got today from my friend who I saw this movie with last night.
That basically sums up my experience with the movie Ready or Not. This is a rare movie that defies genre and makes you continuously check your pulse while you are experiencing it. It also introduced me to the minds of Co Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett who I think have a very bright future.
Ready or Not is about a woman who is marrying into a very old and traditionally rich family. However, before she can be accepted into the family she has to play a deadly game of Hide and Seek with the family. Now I know what you are thinking, that movie does not sound fun at all? I promise this is a very interesting and different take on the concept and uses comedy to diffuse the horror.
There is a lot of gore and just one surprise after another from the ensemble cast to keep you on your toes. About that cast, besides Adam Brody I had never seen any of these actors and I was pleasantly surprised that everyone played their part and each had well defined characters.
Stock Up – Samara Weaving is someone I had never seen before and she absolutely blew me away in this. She had to go through hell and back for this role and still somehow managed to be funny and witty throughout. Yeah she has a bit of a Margot Robbie look going for her but I loved what she did in this.
Stock Up – Adam Brody had a great surprise appearance in Shazam earlier this year and followed it up with a heart wrenching performance in this. He played the groom’s brother and carried a lot of emotional weight throughout the movie. I loved everything about him in this movie.
*A Couple other tidbits
- Andie MacDowell still brings the heat anytime she is on screen.
- Be prepared for some major surprises and gore throughout the movie.
This easily is one of the best and most surprising movies of the summer. It was funny, suspenseful, and of course original. This was a great experience in the theatre.
