What an amazing Saturday night we had. The first great pay per view event in boxing we have had in awhile, and the sport really needed it. We had a great card topped with a fantastic main event! Here is my recap of the action.
Saturday September 28 – FOX PPV
At the Staples Center we had an incredible Welterweight Unification battle between IBF Champion Errol Spence and WBC Champion Shawn Porter. The bout turned out to be an incredible fight of the year candidate that raised the stock of both fighters in my mind. Shawn Porter did his thing, he came forward like a bull and made life difficult for Spence all night long.
Spence had to keep Porter off him early and gradually started breaking Porter down to the body. Eventually he landed a big Left hook which forced porter to touch the ground in the 11th. This led to a split decision in favor of Spence, but again this was a very close fight and both guys absolutely left it all in the ring.
*You can see the highlights of the fight below
*On the undercard David Benavidez got his WBC belt back at 168 lbs. by finishing Anthony Dirrell with a flurry in the 9th round. Dirrell got cut early in the fight but it really did not matter as Benavidez looked a class above the whole fight. Benavidez now looks to the rest of the Super Middleweights to see who will come out on top of the pack.
I hope everyone enjoyed!
