Boxing Recap 7/27

Another wild weekend of boxing we had here in late July, and I have the recap of all of the action!

Saturday July 27 – Showtime

WBA 130 lb. Champion Gervonta Davis made a homecoming defense and as is the style with the PBC, the mismatch was in order. Gervonta annihilated Ricardo Nunez and finished him in the second round. The stoppage seemed to be a bit early, but with all the craziness in the boxing world last week, better to be early than late.

I really hope to see Gervonta take a step up and fight one of the other belt holders, however I think the PBC will nurture him a little longer.

Saturday July 27 – DAZN

In Dallas we had a huge unification fight in the 140 lb. Division between IBF Champion Maurice Hooker and WBC Champion Jose Ramirez. The fight was entertaining as hell with momentum swinging back and forth throughout the first two rounds. That was until the 6th round when Ramirez caught Hooker with a huge left hook, and rushed toward him and finished him with a flurry of punches. To go into Dallas and knock out the hometown guy like that, was extremely impressive.

Jose Ramirez is now the Unified 140 lb. Champion and will wait for the winner of Josh Taylor and Regis Prograis in order to determine who will be the Undisputed champion for the Junior Welterweight Division.

I hope everyone enjoyed another wonderful week of boxing!
