Boxing Recap 7/19-7/20

What an absolutely incredible weekend of boxing we had all over the map. There was something for everyone, and here is my recap of all of the action.

Friday July 19 – ESPN+

Super Hot Prospect Teofimo Lopez had another chance to shine on Saturday against Masayoshi Nakatani. He fought well but did not put on the show everyone thought he would winning a hard fought decision. He has all the skills he just has not quite put it all together yet, and I hope he does not keep chasing the Lomachenko fight. He aint ready for that.

*Highlights for the bout are below.

Saturday July 20 – DAZN

Heavyweight Contender Dillian Whyte took another step toward his endless wait for a WBC title shot. He had a tough time with challenger Oscar Rivas and actually got knocked down in the 9th round. But he came back fought hard and won a pretty wide decision. He is very tough and has absolutely earned his shot at Wilder or Ruiz, and I hope he gets it soon.

Saturday July 20 – FOX PPV

The Main event of the weekend was the WBA title unification between Keith Thurman and Manny Pacquiao. The old man Pacquiao came out firing and knocked down Thurman in the first round, and continued a torrid pace for the first half of the fight. Thurman battled back, but got hurt again in the tenth round. The judges had a split decision victory for Pac Man but this was a beatdown to be honest. I mean just look at Thurman’s face after the fight.

Yeah Manny still has it, and is now no question a Top Ten arguably Top Five fighter of all time. What he has done is unprecedented and we likely will never see someone like him again. He is a treasure to behold and deserves every accolade he gets showered with.

This type of weekend makes any Boxing fan wax poetic about the sport. So much action, so many story lines all wrapped up in one great weekend. I hope everyone enjoyed!
