*Another true story here..

Hustlers is the classic movie that I saw the trailer I said, I do not know what that is about at all, but I am in. And let me tell you Juicers (yep new name for the fans, trying it out), this was my face when Jennifer Lopez walked on screen.

I mean the woman is 50 (I know absurd right) and she is bouncing around, spinning all over the pole, and dominating the screen right in Usher’s face (more on that later).

Okay did we get that out of our system? Good, back to the movie, Hustlers is a story that was adapted by director Lorene Scafario, from an article written in 2015 by Jessica Pressler called The Hustlers at Scores. The basic story is that a group of Dancers at a strip club were drugging and extorting money from rich clients coming into the club. I know pretty wild right? In the movie the Pressler role is played by Julia Stiles (BACK!) and she is seen in the present day interviewing Constance Wu’s Dorothy character about her role in the events that took place. We then get a non linear story telling the events of the crimes, the fallout, and everything in between.

The story in this movie was extremely interesting if not a tad predictable at the end of the day. The real greatness of this movie lies in the acting performances and the unbelievable direction of the film. I will get to the acting in stocks obviously, but the camera work and music in this movie really were just so engaging and enthralling that I just could not look away.

Stock Watch

Stock Up – Constance Wu may have to contend with our next actor on this list, but she was great in the lead role of this movie. She got to play the more self assured older version of the character, while also showing off her more vulnerable younger self throughout the non linear tale. She is an A-Lister at this point.

Stock Up – How can Jennifer Lopez raise her stock you say? Oh just by putting in a performance worthy of an Oscar Nomination. No Joke that is a real sentence in 2019 and I stand by it. She was incredible in this movie and was born to play Ramona. She is one of the great entertainers of our time and never ceases to amaze.

Stock Up – Lorene Scafaria as I laid out above put in serious work in this movie. The camera work and pacing were incredible and I am really excited for whatever project she chooses next.

*A couple other tidbits

• Keke Palmer running away in the garage is one of the funniest moments of the year.
• Lilli Reinhart puking on command was funny but got pretty gross after awhile honestly.
• As I said above love seeing Julia Stiles back in the mix on the big screen.
• USHER WTF!?!?!
• Cardi B!! LOL

This is one of the big surprises of the year for me and I am not mad about it at all. Hustlers is fast paced, but never loses its center and I think everyone can have fun watching this one (just don’t bring your kids).
