Boxing Recap 6/28-6/29

Another fun weekend of Boxing in the books for us fans of the sweet science. Here is my breakdown of all the action from the squared circle.

Friday June 28 – ESPN

Richard Commey defended his IBF lightweight title with an 8th round KO of former title holder Ray Beltran in Temecula, California. Commey floored Beltran twice in the first round, but the tough Beltran was able to fight back and wobble Commey a couple times. However, Commey’s jab and power were enough to finally overwhelm Beltran later in the fight. Next up for Commey is most likely super prospect Teofimo Lopez in a chance to either create a star or shut down the hype train.

Saturday June 29 – Showtime

In his hometown of Houston the apparent WBC Champion defended his “belt” against contender (no pun intended) Brandon Adams. Jermall looked fine but really has not looked the same explosive self as he did at 154 lbs. He is a solid puncher at 160 and will win rounds with his athleticism, I just do not think he beats most of the top guys. Lucky for him he is with the PBC and will not have to face any of them if he does not want to #boxing. Who knows what Al Haymon with do with him next and when he will fight again at all.

Saturday June 29 – DAZN

Lastly on DAZN we had another homecoming fight for WBO Middleweight Champ Demetrius Andrade. He shut out Maciej Sulecki in a relatively boring fight where neither fighter landed many clean punches at all. The cleanest punch Andrade landed was in the first round when he knocked the Polish fighter down. However, he never really went for it which is the major criticism people have for him. I still do not see him beating Canelo right now but he could give GGG a lot of problems with his movement. I hope to see him fight one of the two of them but another fight would intrigue me as well and that would be with Danny Jacobs. I hope he gets a big name soon so we can see where he actually is at, skill wise.

The Boxing train rolls on as always but will be off this weekend for the most part, so we will be back next week to discuss more fights.
